You probably did a double take at this photo before you realized that the two girls in this photo are not actually flipping you the bird. These happy young women are showing off their new rings in a manner accustomed to Ukrainian people. According to my resources, this sign of attachment is also shown at weddings.

Promise Rings make an inexpensive but tangible way to seal a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. If you are so lucky to find a special someone overseas but are committed to taking the relationship slow, these can be the perfect gift.

It is important to note that women wear the rings on their right hand (in Ukraine, at least). The left hand is considered unlucky and “the devil’s hand”. It is something to keep in mind, and it is simple enough to do a little scouting ahead. Just notice which hand already married women are wearing in your area and proceed accordingly.
